The Petriverse of Pierre Jardin: by Paul A. Harris

Beauty in Geology

Sometimes Pierre Jardin cannot contain
the sheer unjaded joy rocks send
bubbling up through his belly to his brain.

This geo-ode expresses Jardin's raw emotion by reducing signs to something to be sounded out, coding language as a visual puzzle solved by resorting to one's childish sense. The beauty of contingent geologic processes and events that produced a distinctly imprinted O on a stone itself stands in as a synecdoche for the sensation Jardin strives to convey, the feeling for the earth that infuses every geo-ode.
